Editorial standards and ethics

Every item on ClickNNY says where it came from, so a reader can always tell a ClickNNY story from someone else's.

Sourcing and attribution

  • ClickNNY stories are produced by ClickNNY.
  • Official sources (police, courts, municipalities, schools and agencies) are summarized with credit to the agency and, where one exists, a link to the original.
  • Reader tips and submissions are never published as fact on the tipster's word alone.
  • Other news outlets are linked, never republished. A headline from another outlet sends you to that outlet to read it.

Accuracy and fairness

We report what can be confirmed from records, official statements or direct observation, and we say when something is not yet confirmed. Developing stories are labeled Developing and updated as facts come in; each update is time-stamped.

People named in criminal cases are presumed innocent. A charge is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.

Family-safe

ClickNNY is family-safe. Public-safety reporting is limited to what is newsworthy, we do not publish graphic detail for its own sake, and we take extra care with anything involving minors, including student athletes.

Images

Images are photographs where we have them, credited to whoever took them. When a story has no suitable photo we may use a map, a graphic or an illustration, and it is labeled as one. An illustration is never presented as a photograph of a real event.

Independence

Advertising, sponsored stories and paid business listings, including Pro partner write-ups about a business, are labeled as paid where they appear.
