Fort Drum hosted its annual National Night Out on Aug. 4 with a superhero theme, according to information submitted to ClickNNY. The event was organized by Mountain Community Homes and included food, activities for children, military aircraft tours and live music from the 10th Mountain Division Band. Personnel from the Fort Drum Directorate of Emergency Services brought a police vehicle and a fire truck for children to explore.
According to the submission, first responders and support organizations also took part in the gathering, which organizers describe as an opportunity for military families to build connections after arriving at a new post. National Night Out began in 1984 as a public safety effort centered on community gatherings. The submission states Mountain Community Homes has hosted the event for more than a decade and has received a National Night Out Award for seven consecutive years.
