Watertown town board weighing tax and reassessment options
The Town of Watertown is considering whether a town property tax or reassessment may be needed as sales-tax revenue declines and expenses rise.
By the ClickNNY North Country Desk
The Town of Watertown is considering whether to impose a town property tax or reassess properties as it faces financial pressure, according to a ClickNNY community submission.
Town Supervisor Jim Wright said the town has relied on its share of Jefferson County sales-tax revenue and has not imposed a town tax. The town’s equalization rate has not changed since 1990, and county officials say it is 45.5% this year and is expected to fall to 42.5% next year. Wright said the town board is waiting for the results of a state audit before deciding how to proceed.
The next town board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10. This was submitted by a ClickNNY user and has not been independently verified by ClickNNY.com editorial.
