The Woodruff Hotel in Watertown was demolished in January 1976. Fifty years later, the former Flanagan Hotel in Malone was also razed in April, marking the disappearance of two prominent hotels from the North Country landscape.
The Woodruff hosted events including a 1941 British War Relief Society ball attended by about 400 guests, a 1956 Beta Sigma Phi dance and holiday meals for schoolchildren in 1959. A 1913 suffragette parade in Watertown also passed the hotel.
The hotel’s restaurant furnishings included a 1917 mirror that was sold at auction in 2015.
